Well Traveled Fork: Recipe of the MonthRECIPE OF THE MONTH

Bourbon Milk Punch

When I went to the Commander's Palace in New Orleans, I was introduced to the seductive libation slyly labeled "milk punch". Milk punch is a staple in New Orleans, as it cures the evils of the previous night's excesses (or so itis claims), makes you younger, stronger, prettier, braver and so on. It is drunk with pleasure during Mardi Gras because, among other things, it is good for you. After all, it contains milk! While the original recipe was made with straight sugar, I prefer a simple syrup.

This is a great brunch drink, and perfect for the Christmas holidays.

I happened to like this recipe with the bourbon from Oregon Spirit Distillers. You can check out their bourbon out at: www.oregonspiritdistillers.com.

Well Traveled Fork: Recipe of the Month

Serving Size:  4

       INGREDIENTS:
Amount Measure Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
1/3 cup half and half
8 ounces bourbon
1/3 cup simple syrup
1 tablespoon vanilla

In a pitcher, combine ice cold milk, half and half, and the simple syrup. Pour in the bourbon and the vanilla and stir. Taste the mixture and adjust to your liking.

In four highball glasses, add ice. Pour the mixture over the ice and serve immediately. Pretend you are on Bourbon Street.

Note: The mixture can also be poured into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until very well mixed and cold, then pour into a martini class or margarita glass.
